Welcome to The 94 Percent.

We have a lot to say.

Has The World Gone Mad?

Has The World Gone Mad?

So it’s the morning after the Fourth of July holiday, and I’m struggling to get ready for work. I spilled my hot tea all over the counter and in the process of trying to clean up that mess I spilled even more tea over some paper towels. Needless to say that by the time I started walking to the bus stop, I was pretty much over the day.

I started my usual routine of skimming social media just to see what people were talking about regarding pop culture, politics, and world news when I came across an article from The Wall Street Journal that discussed a survey taken at the U.S.State Department. In the article, those at the State Department were complaining about how key positions weren’t being filled and a general concern about the future of several offices due to the upcoming budget cuts.

Those are legit concerns right?

Well, I made the mistake of looking at the comments and seeing critics say that those who complained either need to shut up or leave their cushy government jobs if they aren’t happy. HOW SWAY?!?!

Any sensible person working in an office would be concerned about the future and the direction of their office in the midst of budget cuts. As the comments continued, it became more about people simply not liking the leadership versus a group of people unable to complete tasks due to the lack of leadership. Those people that make crazy comments in regards to greedy government jobs are the same people who   want direct action when something terrible happens in another country. You do know there’s a government office that handles that type of work right?

Reading this article and seeing the comments made me realize that a lot people don’t know how things in the outside world work. As someone who works in a government office myself (I refuse to say where, the streets are watching), my eyes have been opened to a number of things and how important these offices are regardless of how small the issue. So when you decide to go to another country and act out, there’s an office that handles that. If you get kidnapped while on vacation, there’s an office for that as well.

I encourage you to look up some of these offices that are being affected by these budget cuts and learn their functions. You would be surprised at how much they do for America and countries all over the world. Think about this next time you decide to venture into the comment section of an online article.

P.S. If you need a little laugh, go to NPR’s Twitter page. They tweeted the Declaration of Independence word for word yesterday and let’s just the say the comments will have you in tears. Pray for these people for they know not what they say!!!!!
