Welcome to The 94 Percent.

We have a lot to say.

We Got It

We Got It

A few weeks ago, I was out at Happy Hour with some friends and all the sudden a familiar song comes on and I started singing every word.

If you were born in the 80's, then you know who the group "Immature" is. Three teenage boys wearing  dark sunglasses and baggy pants could get a room full of teenage girls screaming in a heart beat, and I used to be one of them. There was "Batman" legally known as Marques Houston, who was the lead singer and stayed with his hair in a curly format. Romeo, who wore an eyepatch on his right eye for the longest (the entire thing was fake), was the smooth rapper, and LDB just sang and played the drums.

They weren't one hit wonders either. There was "Never Lie", "Constantly", and the Nickelodeon favorite "Do My Thing". I can't lie, I know dance movements from some of their videos.

I used to have a crush on each of these guys at different times in life and each for different reasons. It didn't help that Marques Houston had a regular role on the 90's sitcom "Sister, Sister" which made girls swoon even more. Immature's audience fell right into the Nickelodeon days so their popularity had a lasting effect and even gave them a platform to mentor another popular group (B2K but they aren't important right now).

Even with age, Immature stayed fine and continued to make music throughout the2000's which included a name change to "IMX". Marques continued to act and even managed to help create the movie we all love to hate "You Got Served"(It will be on BET this Saturday if you haven't seen it yet). Immature may not be a big deal to people now but they had an impact on Male RnB groups. Some of your favorites (Yes, B2k included) were influenced by Immature. I'm sure a few people don't know that soul singer Jhene Aiko used to be affiliated with them as well (google her to connect the dots).

They don't make music as much anymore but it never hurts to seem pop up on a 90's tour every now and then, and I want to say that Marques is still acting. It may be 2017 but trust and believe I have no shame singing along whenever their songs are played anywhere. I'm sure I'm not the only one either.
